Neste evento, dirigido a empresários da Euro Região Norte de Portugal-Galiza, participaram também várias entidades locais e regionais. O orador con&amp;shy;vidado foi Praveen Gupta, especialista inter&amp;shy;nacional  na área de inovação empresarial, que esteve recentemente em Portugal para o lançamento pelo Grupo Editorial Vida Económica da versão portuguesa do livro “Inovação Empresarial no séc. XXI”.&lt;br /&gt;O especialista norte-americano em ino&amp;shy;vação é presidente da Accelper Consulting, uma organização que ajudou mais de 100 empresas a melhorar e acelerar a sua per&amp;shy;formance. A actividade vai ser alargada  à Europa através da criação da &lt;strong&gt;Accelper Consulting Iberia&lt;/strong&gt;. Gupta desenvolveu o Six Sigma Business Scorecard, e o Bre&amp;shy;akthrough Innovation (Brinnovation™) “frameworks for achieving profitable gro&amp;shy;wth”. É autor de diversas obras, tais como Inovação Empresarial no séc. XXI, Six Sig&amp;shy;ma Business Scorecard, Service Scorecard, Stat Free Six Sigma, e Six Sigma Perfor&amp;shy;mance Handbook. É professor na DePaul University e no Illinois Institute of Tech&amp;shy;nology. É, ainda, Editor do International Journal of Innovation Science.&lt;br /&gt;Com esta iniciativa o Clube Financeiro de Vigo pretende dinamizar o desenvol&amp;shy;vimento económico da Galiza e do Norte de Portugal. O Dr Fernando Leite, administrador delegado da Lipor, fez um enquadramento da Lipor enquanto centro de inovação no tratamentod e lixos domésticos e industriais, destacando o papel de cada um de nós como agentes responsaveis na redução de lixos domésticos.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;Alexis Gonçalves, não está presente na foto, destacou a obra do autor e a sua ligação ao tema da inovação, destacando Gupta como uma entidade de referência neste capítulo, destacando a sua ligação à Univeridade de Chicago onde Praveen lecciona a cadeira de inovação. He fought long and hard in this campaign, and he's fought even longer and harder for the country he loves. He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine, and we are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader. And while she's no longer with us, I know my grandmother is watching, along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight, and know that my debt to them is beyond measure.&lt;br /&gt;To my campaign manager David Plouffe, my chief strategist David Axelrod, and the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of politics--you made this happen, and I am forever grateful for what you've sacrificed to get it done.&lt;br /&gt;But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to--it belongs to you.&lt;br /&gt;I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington--it began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston.&lt;br /&gt;It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give five dollars and ten dollars and twenty dollars to this cause. It grew strength from the young people who rejected the myth of their generation's apathy; who left their homes and their families for jobs that offered little pay and less sleep; from the not-so-young people who braved the bitter cold and scorching heat to knock on the doors of perfect strangers; from the millions of Americans who volunteered, and organized, and proved that more than two centuries later, a government of the people, by the people and for the people has not perished from this Earth. This is your victory.&lt;br /&gt;I know you didn't do this just to win an election and I know you didn't do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime--two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century.&lt;br /&gt;Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage, or pay their doctor's bills, or save enough for college. There is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and threats to meet and alliances to repair.&lt;br /&gt;The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America--I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you--we as a people will get there.&lt;br /&gt;There will be setbacks and false starts. There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president, and we know that government can't solve every problem. But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And above all, I will ask you join in the work of remaking this nation the only way it's been done in America for two-hundred and twenty-one years--block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.&lt;br /&gt;What began twenty-one months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek--it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn--I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your president too.&lt;br /&gt;And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of our world--our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand. To those who would tear this world down--we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security - we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright--tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.&lt;br /&gt;For that is the true genius of America--that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.&lt;br /&gt;This election had many firsts and many stories that will be told for generations. But one that's on my mind tonight is about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. She's a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing--Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old.&lt;br /&gt;She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons--because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin.&lt;br /&gt;And tonight, I think about all that she's seen throughout her century in America - the heartache and the hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can't, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.&lt;br /&gt;At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot.&lt;br /&gt;Yes we can.&lt;br /&gt;When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a New Deal, new jobs and a new sense of common purpose. Yes we can.&lt;br /&gt;When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a democracy was saved. Yes we can.&lt;br /&gt;She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a bridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that "We Shall Overcome." Yes we can.&lt;br /&gt;A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was connected by our own science and imagination. And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change. Yes we can.&lt;br /&gt;America, we have come so far. We have seen so much. But there is so much more to do. So tonight, let us ask ourselves--if our children should live to see the next century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have made?&lt;br /&gt;This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. Poderemos considerar o mundo (ou “Aldeia Global”) como um só mercado, na medida em que os brinquedos produzidos na China e os refrigerantes americanos são consumidos à escala global e o nosso vinho do Porto pode ser apreciado nos cinco continentes? Dito isto, uma questão inevitavelmente se coloca acerca de quais serão as consequências da globalização sobre a diversidade cultural: estarão as culturas a convergir devido ao fenómeno da globalização? A resposta é a de que, em boa verdade, o mundo continua a ser multicultural e que as empresas que operam no mercado internacional que revelam as seguintes incapacidades: de conhecer a cultura específica de cada país e a sua percepção do produto ou serviço, de conhecer qual a estrutura de consumo do país – como é gasto o dinheiro nas diferentes categorias de produtos e serviços, de conhecer a percepção do êxito e de riqueza, de proceder às necessárias adaptações culturais das marcas e das políticas de comunicação, às normas e valores sociais, culturais e religiosos do país, têm, fatalmente, como resultado o insucesso.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A decisão de internacionalização de uma qualquer empresa seja ela de pequena ou grande dimensão não deverá, nem poderá, ser efectuada de uma forma empírica: pela sensibilidade do gestor da empresa, do seu sócio principal ou da experiência “vivida pelo vizinho concorrente”. Torna-se necessário reflectir de uma forma mais racional quanto aos passos a dar quando seleccionamos determinado mercado. Devemos, pois, começar pelo mais elementar: o de obter um conhecimento profundo dos mercados-alvo de forma a permitir a tomada de uma decisão que nos permita reduzir o risco. As prioridades deverão passar por: um estudo interno da nossa empresa e dos nossos concorrentes, um estudo dos mercados potenciais ao nível social, político, económico e dos futuros concorrentes, elaboração de uma lista reduzida de países, conhecer os apoios comunitários existentes e locais à instalação se forem aplicáveis, conhecer as regras de comercialização aplicáveis ao seu produto, conhecer as regras de etiquetagem, embalagem, etc, prever as reacções dos concorrentes locais e dos potenciais concorrentes, a definição das formas como irá estar presente nesse mercado. Não raras vezes as empresas falham nos seus objectivos de internacionalização não por “culpa” dos seus produtos ou dos RH escolhidos para essa função, mas pelo simples facto de desconhecerem as regras básicas de negociação e como se estabelecem as relações comerciais com os operadores desse mercado. Tomemos como exemplo o acto de cumprimentar o nosso interlocutor. Nos EUA não existe muita proximidade no contacto, um aperto de mão é distante e não tão próximo como com os povos latinos.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="justify"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;O Modelo de Hofstede (Hofstede, 1980,2001) é o mais utilizado para medir as diferenças culturais entre países. O modelo foi elaborado a partir de um estudo de 160.000 entrevistas a empregados da IBM em todo o mundo (50 países) o que lhe permitiu isolar o efeito da cultura do país, da cultura da empresa. As dimensões culturais identificadas por Hofstede são: a distância ao poder (DP) – que representa o grau em que os indivíduos com menor poder nas organizações aceitam uma distribuição desigual de poder, a aversão à incerteza (AI) – indica o grau em que os indivíduos se relacionam com o receio ou insegurança perante situações novas, o individualismo-colectivismo (IDV) – o individualismo expressa preocupações individuais e de contexto mais próximo, por outro lado o colectivismo alarga o âmbito de referência a grupos mais amplos aos quais o individuo se sente vinculado, a masculinidade-feminilidade (MA) – faz referência ao grau de predominância numa sociedade, de valores tradicionalmente associados ao perfil masculino ou feminino das pessoas, e a atitude face ao tempo – orientada ao curto ou ao longo prazo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Este modelo constitui uma ferramenta interessante que poderá, e deverá, ajudar os decisores a conhecerem as diferenças culturais existentes entre países e em consequência a agir em conformidade na selecção dos mercados. Tecemos em seguida algumas considerações práticas em termos das implicações das diferentes dimensões culturais que este modelo nos demonstra, centrando a comparação nos casos limite. Em termos de distância ao poder, a Dinamarca, ou outros países nórdicos, valoram pouco o status, não sendo aconselhável a ostentação de riqueza, a escolha do hotel por exemplo deverá recair sobre uma unidade de qualidade média, bem como a escolha de um representante jovem e com conhecimentos técnicos elevados. Um país individualista como os Estados Unidos, valoriza mais a competitividade do produto e o preço por contraponto ao conhecimento pessoal ou da empresa. Nos países com predominância de valores tradicionalmente masculinos como o Japão, se a nossa empresa é jovem ou com presença em poucos mercados, as hipóteses entrada serão ainda menores. Não temos um processo de demonstração do que já fizemos, encaram como falta de consistência e é um país em que o insucesso é valorizado negativamente. Existe um “stress on results” nestes países. Em Portugal e Espanha verificam-se elevados índices de aversão à incerteza, nomeadamente em relação ao cumprimento dos prazos de entrega e de pagamento. Estabelecem-se por vezes algumas relações de confiança mas do tipo “sim, mas por escrito”. Os dois gestores concluíram o International MBA da Escola de Negócios Caixanova que incide sobre a estratégia das empresas. Para João Mendes, a pequena dimensão do país e da maioria das empresas deve ser encarada como uma vantagem competitiva.Jorge Teixeira afirma que a existência de grandes comunidades portuguesas não tem favorecido a internacionalização das empresas portuguesas. No mercado vão surgindo boas oportunidades. A estabilidade e o crescimento económico de Angola tornam bastante apetecível o investimento de empresas portuguesas.Vida Económica - Tradicio&amp;shy;nalmente, existe uma abertura das empresas ao desenvolvi&amp;shy;mento de actividades no ex&amp;shy;terior? Qual é a vossa opinião sobre as oportunidades e desa&amp;shy;fios que a internacionalização coloca às empresas portugue&amp;shy;sas?João Mendes - Somos um país de descobridores, viajantes e fi&amp;shy;nalmente emigrantes. Desde o império marítimo português (a partir de 1415) que conseguimos mudar o mundo vencendo os próprios medos. Estabelecemos rotas e entrepostos comerciais, traficámos escravos, explorámos povos inteiros, ou seja, fomos ca&amp;shy;pazes do melhor e do pior. Mas, deixando de lado as considera&amp;shy;ções históricas, o que importa reflectir é se tradicionalmente so&amp;shy;mos um povo com aptidões para encarar com alguma facilidade e naturalidade a saída do pequeno rectângulo.A crescente concorrência a nível internacional em todos os merca&amp;shy;dos obriga as empresas a seguirem estratégias de crescimento fora do mercado interno. O próprio teci&amp;shy;do empresarial português já con&amp;shy;seguiu perceber que o mercado interno é demasiado restrito para os que querem ganhar dimensão, a dimensão necessária que lhes permita não ver os seus merca&amp;shy;dos engolidos pelos concorrentes. Mas será esse de facto um ponto fraco?Eventualmente, não será se as empresas se especializarem na&amp;shy;quilo que sabem fazer e ao mes&amp;shy;mo tempo apresentarem soluções de flexibilidade aos seus clientes. Nisso somos capazes de fazer bem, somos pequenos e essa pe&amp;shy;quena dimensão permite-nos ou deveria permitir-nos apresentar uma vantagem competitiva face aos demais países. Pequenas pro&amp;shy;duções e de qualidade é connos&amp;shy;co, essa deveria ser a nossa insíg&amp;shy;nia. E nunca é de mais sublinhar que a nossa indústria de pequena dimensão que continua a tentar competir pelo preço e sem carác&amp;shy;ter inovador ou tecnológico está, fatalmente, condenada a desapa&amp;shy;recer. No sector têxtil, as empresas portuguesas foram procuradas pelos grandes agentes têxteis in&amp;shy;ternacionais. A resposta foi de uma forma geral positiva. As nossas empresas ficaram conheci&amp;shy;das por serem capazes de garan&amp;shy;tir uma relação preço/qualidade de alto nível. Esse facto, porém, teve algum impacto negativo na indústria. Isto porque, embora as grandes marcas recorressem à produção portuguesa para os seus produtos espalhados pelo mun&amp;shy;do, não facilitou o aparecimento de marcas nacionais fortes.Em suma, encaramos com al&amp;shy;guma facilidade a nossa presença no exterior, mas urge rever a for&amp;shy;ma como essa presença tem sido feita. A nosso ver, devemos deixar cair a tentação de criarmos mar&amp;shy;cas próprias a todo o custo. Não temos notoriedade suficiente para nos afirmarmos mundialmente mas temos a qualidade que as grandes marcas querem e a flexi&amp;shy;bilidade para as pequenas produ&amp;shy;ções. A qualidade, a flexibilidade, a existência de um tecido indus&amp;shy;trial de pequena dimensão alia&amp;shy;das às nossas características como povo — permitindo compreender e adaptar rapidamente o que o cliente pretende — constituem a verdadeira receita para o sucesso do desafio da internacionalização.VE - A internacionalização pressupõe que as empresas cooperem mais entre si para reduzir os riscos e aumentar a eficácia no mercado externo?João Mendes - Em qualquer processo de internacionalização é vital estarem asseguradas duas premissas que, não estando salva&amp;shy;guardadas, conduzirão ao insuces&amp;shy;so do processo, pondo em causa o próprio futuro da organização: uma forte consolidação da empre&amp;shy;sa e dos seus produtos ou serviços no mercado interno e uma afecta&amp;shy;ção eficaz de recursos económicos e humanos a esse fim. No fundo, trata-se de preparar a empresa (pessoas, meios financeiros, plano de marketing, produtos, proces&amp;shy;sos) para o novo desafio. É aqui que, muitas vezes, quase sempre, a decisão de internacionaliza&amp;shy;ção da empresa bloqueia. A não existência de recursos suficientes leva a que, muitas vezes, se caia na tentação de estender a mão em busca de um subsídio. O que é um erro, porque, para garan&amp;shy;tir a elegibilidade desses apoios, muitas vezes não são seguidas as melhores opções. Mas, em bom rigor, actualmente existem, de facto, alguns empresários que querem dar um rumo diferente às suas organizações, indo à pro&amp;shy;cura de novos mercados e não aguardando pelos subsídios para estabelecerem as suas priorida&amp;shy;des estratégicas de crescimento. O tecido empresarial português, sendo constituído, na sua maioria por pequenas e médias empresas com recursos limitados, deverá rever o conceito de pesquisa de mercados e a forma como se apre&amp;shy;senta neles. Porque não procurar empresas de média dimensão que não têm capacidade para as grandes encomendas no mercado asiático, e porque não fornecê-las com a sua própria marca? Desta forma garantem vendas e maximi&amp;shy;zam a sua capacidade produtiva. Trata-se cruamente, tão-somente, de conseguirmos sobreviver num mercado cada vez mais global. O pequeno empresário deverá obri&amp;shy;gatoriamente aproveitar as missões empresariais, as feiras e exposições internacionais, estabelecendo uma meta de exploração de novos mercados, a visita a feiras levando amostras, seleccionando clientes a visitar e apresentando-se com o objectivo de estabelecer parcerias comerciais.Falar em cooperação para redu&amp;shy;zir os riscos e aumentar a eficá&amp;shy;cia no mercado externo é, como se costuma dizer, “pôr o dedo na ferida”. É fundamental que os empresários ponham de lado algumas desconfianças e optem por esta solução. Existe, muitas vezes, ainda, o receio de que o parceiro retire maior vantagem da aliança, o que tem inviabili&amp;shy;zado à partida qualquer hipótese de entendimento. Por exemplo, a constituição de uma aliança es&amp;shy;tratégica &amp;shy;através de um consórcio de exportação poderia ser uma boa solução com vantagens assi&amp;shy;naláveis: gastos repartidos pelos sócios, maior gama de produtos e maior poder de negociação.Um bom exemplo de colabo&amp;shy;ração foi a parceria que recente&amp;shy;mente se estabeleceu entre pro&amp;shy;dutores de vinho e a agência de promoção turística Adeturn, que permitiu a realização duma sessão do Grand Jury na região do Dou&amp;shy;ro. Durante quatro dias foram testados mais de cem vinhos das principais regiões portuguesas. Este tipo de parcerias são o ideal, confundem-se com as acções de RP, são mais eficazes na criação de notoriedade. Esta parceria vínico-turística fará mais pela promoção do Douro e dos vinhos portugue&amp;shy;ses do que outras grandes iniciati&amp;shy;vas, muitas vezes pagas a “peso de ouro” e com resultados práticos bastante limitados.VE - A aposta das empresas portuguesas deve dirigir-se mais a mercados de proximida&amp;shy;de e, teoricamente, de menor risco, ou mercados emergen&amp;shy;tes, com maior risco, como An&amp;shy;gola ou Brasil?Jorge Teixeira - A União Euro&amp;shy;peia representou, em 2006, 77,2% das exportações e 75,5% das im&amp;shy;portações portuguesas. Sendo que os principais clientes de Por&amp;shy;tugal foram no mesmo período: a Espanha (27,4%), a Alemanha (13,1%), a França (12,4%) e o Reino Unido (7,1%). Os Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Por&amp;shy;tuguesa (PALOP) representaram 4,4% e a Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP), incluindo o Brasil, 5,1%. Estes números demonstram claramen&amp;shy;te que a existência de grandes co&amp;shy;munidades portuguesas não tem favorecido a internacionalização das empresas portuguesas.A estabilidade e o crescimento económico de Angola tornam bastante apetecível o investimen&amp;shy;to de empresas portuguesas. As exportações para o Brasil tem aumentado ligeiramente mas o saldo é amplamente desfavorável para Portugal. Tendencialmente, o desejável é que o crescimento das exportações portuguesas se sustente fortemente em produtos com elevado valor acrescentado e com forte componente de inova&amp;shy;ção e tecnológica.Além disso, é necessário prestar atenção à modificação de padrões de consumo, por exemplo, Portu&amp;shy;gal exportou para a China vinhos no valor de 547 mil euros, entre Janeiro e Junho de 2007.VE - Existem serviços dirigi&amp;shy;dos às empresas que querem expandir a actividade fora do país?Jorge Teixeira - Actualmente, existem diversas entidades e orga&amp;shy;nismos que prestam serviços diri&amp;shy;gidos às empresas que pretendem iniciar ou expandir o processo de internacionalização. Quer sejam a AICEP, o IAPMEI, Associa&amp;shy;ções Empresariais ou Câmaras de Cooperação Bilaterais. Entre os serviços disponibilizados encon&amp;shy;tram-se: acções de formação, mis&amp;shy;sões empresariais, feiras e outros eventos no estrangeiro. O próprio modelo de diplomacia económica em que se utiliza a influência di&amp;shy;plomática portuguesa e os recur&amp;shy;sos existentes do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros e do Mi&amp;shy;nistério da Economia para apoiar as empresas portuguesas. Existem, sem dúvida alguma, recursos sufi&amp;shy;cientes afectos a este desígnio na&amp;shy;cional que é o aumento da capaci&amp;shy;dade exportadora e que poderiam catapultar a imagem das empresas portuguesas e do país, mas então porque falha a promoção da mar&amp;shy;ca Portugal? Falha claramente na resposta às seguintes perguntas: qual o segmento de clientes que queremos atingir? Estamos à pro&amp;shy;cura da notoriedade do país, à se&amp;shy;melhança das estratégias empresa&amp;shy;riais? Entendemos Portugal como uma empresa capaz de oferecer diferentes produtos e serviços aos seus clientes? Lamentavelmente, não. But he hasn't been seen in public since he became ill and provisionally turned over his powers to his brother, Raul, in July 2006.&lt;br /&gt;Castro's retirement was not a surprise. Cuba's National Assembly is scheduled to meet this weekend to elect a new president. In this third phase of Net evolution, network architectures and commercial business plans reflect the dominance of rich video and media traffic.&lt;br /&gt;From YouTube, IPTV, and high-definition images, to “cloud computing” and ubiquitous mobile cameras—to 3D games, virtual worlds, and photorealistic telepresence—the new wave is swelling into an exaflood of Internet and IP traffic. An exabyte is 10 to the 18th. We estimate that by 2015, U.S. IP traffic could reach an annual total of one zettabyte (1021 bytes), or one million million billion bytes.&lt;br /&gt;We began using the term “exaflood” in 2001 to convey the vast gulf between the total traffic on the nation’s local area networks, then 15 exabytes a month, and the thousandfold smaller flows across the Internet.
